And this is the first time I've heard the phrase "improv piecing" but I'm pretty sure it's not my thing.

I am a believer that corners don't have to match exactly and other loose ideas that would have many quilters gasping in horror, but I still like more traditional patchwork. I also like symmetry, and a lot of these patterns are asymmetrical. That being said, the It's a bit hard to rate this book because while the quilts are beautiful, they are not at all my style.
That being said, there are some nice projects here and I can see quilters with different preferences having a ball with these ideas.

I particularly liked the color palate of the quilt "Mosaic" on page Usually I like the little blurbs at the beginning of quilt pattern, but to be honest, most of these blurbs turned me off. Not really sure that I can put my finger on why. It did really bother me that in the baby quilt section the quilts were either blue with the suggest to make for a boy or pink blurb telling you how much baby girl will love it.
Come on! Can't we get past 1 only those colors for babies and 2 gender typing colors starting the day babies are born? Oct 22, Jkrontirislitowitz rated it liked it. I enjoy the fresh approach that the modern quilts bring to quilting so this book interested me. I found that about half of the quilts had ides pas that I wanted to absorb. My favorite pages were: P. Apr 18, Sarah rated it it was amazing Shelves: craftycrafty , I actually enjoy all the piecing involved in traditional quilting, so I didn't think a book of modern patterns was going to be my cup of tea. Admittedly, I have no idea if I will make any of the quilts in this book, but I found it really inspirational to flip through--particularly the all the ideas for quilting the finished quilt tops on a home machine.

The thing is, one's quilting is incredibly important when the design is so sleek and spare. I'll have to get my machine quilting skills up to par before I attempt one of these beauties. Jul 20, Caro rated it liked it Shelves: quilts. Having just worked on three small improvisational pieces, I liked the author's notes about improvisational piecing. The monochrome quilt in shades of red is stunning. Otherwise, these quilts seemed to lack the graphic impact I expect of modern quilts.
Sometimes less is less Jan 29, Jackie rated it liked it Shelves: do-it-yourself. This book had ideas about quilts with big patterns and usually solid colors. It was as if there was only one block on an entire large quilt. Beautiful visual displays.
Also beautiful color combinations. Baby quilts were shown with pastels; bright colors would be better for those little humans. May 21, Claire rated it liked it Shelves: non-fiction , arts-and-crafts. Some nice eye candy. Now to decide how to be inspired without copying. I appreciated the suggestions for quilting design--two for each pattern. There didn't happen to be any techniques explained that I needed to learn, but that is not the author's fault.

Awesome book Glorious Patchwork represents yet another craft breakthrough for Kaffe Fassett, who has fearlessly conquered the worlds of colour knitting, needlepoint, and rug hooking. Here he teams up with quilt designer Liza Prior Lucy to produce a series of colour-drenched patchwork designs that have a powerful impact and a subtle, pleasing symmetry. This is a book that will thrill textile and fiber craftspeople.
Needlepoint, knitting and decorative design projects for your home Ebury Press Many designers have the gift of gab; few can actually write. Kaffe Fassett is a delightful exception. Indeed, the text of Glorious Interiors is something rare in interior design: a down-to-earth account of a complex and sophisticated personal style. Going by the vibrant kitsch, the obsessive repetition, and the migrainous, fractal surfaces of his trademark interiors, one suspects that not a few of them have ended up, tragically, in decidedly minimal circumstances, complete with soft white walls and bars on the windows.
And he knows just what we need to get it back. The sweater shapes are basic without being boring and unlikely to go out of fashion. Aimed at intermediate and advanced knitters, the book encourages readers to use their own variations on the designs. After publishing four bestselling books, he finally brings his many admirers a book that he himself would have liked to have found at the beginning of his designing career. He has drawn together a stunning collection of design sources which cannot fail to inspire amateur as well as professional decorative artists. Always keen to draw more and more embroiderers and knitters into the exciting realm of design, Kaffe has tirelessly encouraged those who read his books, hear his lectures, or watch his television series to design their own textiles.
Creative designer Kaffe Fassett has made a tremendous impact on the world of knitting. Following on from his highly successful book glorious knitting, Kaffe has now teamed up with fellow designer Zoe Hunt to produce a brilliantly colourful knitwear collection to suit all ages. The 33basic patterns are grouped according to their motifs, which include squares and plaids, circles and dots, flowers and bows, and many more. Almost 80 variations on the basic patterns are illustrated in over fantastic photographs by Steve Lovi. Together in Family Album, Kaffe and Zoe form a dazzling design partnership that revels in the subtle and exciting use of colour and texture, to produce a versatile, inspiring collection of patterns for all the family.
This show has given rise to the third book by the bestselling team of Kaffe Fassett and Steve Lovi, whose collaboration created Glorious Knitting and Glorious Needlepoint. Sources for Inspiration for Knitting and Needlepoint, with 17 Projects Now, in his latest collection of projects for knitting and needlepoint, he shares the creative processes behind his fabulously rich and textured designs. His sources are mainly traditional — fruits and vegetables, fish and fowl, flowers and foliage, fans and faces, geometrics and jugs — but his choice of colours and inventive flair give them his characteristically colour slant, and enable needlepoint to scale new artistic heights.
Boldly scattered cushion and rugs around the home and studio, as well as designs for table and mats and shoulder bags, make the fingers positively itch to start stitching. Influences as diverse as Turkoman carpets, Japanese ikat weaving, a tiled floor in Pompeii and a Spanish damask cloth have inspired his designs which are a magnificent blend of colour and pattern that transcends the fashion of the moment.
In fact, they are all based on simple shapes and the easiest of stitch patterns — stocking stitch. The region, with its terracotta walls and handsome black and white churches set off by jewel-like glimpses of the Mediterranean, is beautifully reflected in the colors and patterns created by Kaffe and his team of designers.
